A selection of organic veg and fruit awaits you outside this well-stocked little shop. The shelves are packed, floor to ceiling, with organic, Fairtrade, local and other ethically inclined goodies.
It’s really great that such a teeny tiny city as St Davids is so well catered for by people who really care about quality and the environment. Go buy all the things from St Davids Food and Wine (and our other recommended food shops).
We’d heard good things about the deli counter and many a rumour of delicious sandwiches. Alas, ’twas not to be. It seems the deli counter closes earlier than the rest of the shop, an hour earlier when we’ve visited, although not sure if this is the case every day. We had, perhaps foolishly, elected to explore the Cathedral before gathering our lunch.
We were able to gather a pot of organic houmous/humous/hummus from the closed counter, via friendly helpful staff. We can’t remember the taste but we did wolf it down with some veg crisps, sitting in the car working up to our Coast Path walk, later that day. So it was almost certainly pretty good!
It’s Great For…
- Beers from local breweries
- Organic and fairtrade wines
- Hampers and picnics
- Organic foods (fresh, tinned, bottled, jar’d, boxed, bagged, etc. etc.)
- Welsh cheeses
Check closing times of deli counter and shop if you are heading here for something essential.
“On our deli we have the best products we can find from all over the UK. Our aim is to provide local produce where possible but when it’s not, we track down the best produce we can.St Davids Food & Wine
Our generously filled baguettes and sandwiches are our pride and joy and each and every one is made to order. Our salads, coleslaw, tuna, egg mayo, humous and “Specials” are made freshly daily. Our Extra Specials are just that as we use the finest ingredients such as Free Range Pembrokeshire Pork slow cooked in Welsh cider, Smoked Duck/Chicken, Smoked Salmon (ethically farmed) and during the year we have such delights as locally caught Solva Crab. There’s something for everyone. We also have some delicious vegetarian options.
We passionately believe that the best fruit and vegetables are produced organically. Better for you and the planet. Our fruit and veg is sourced mainly from Lampeter and has always been of high quality and seasonal. Of course taste is key to any food and we believe we get the tastiest fruit and veg from all over Wales and beyond from dedicated farmers and producers that care over and above to make their produce free from pesticide use and working with the environment and not against nature.”
There is street parking available around St David’s but it is usually short stay.
We tend to park at Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre, where there is usually plenty of space. (More info). You can have a quick pop into the free gallery spaces on your way past and there is also a handy toilet before you head to the shops.
Oriel y Parc is a less than 3 minute walk into town, we timed it our very selves. St Davids Food and Wine is one of the first shops you come to. There is also just enough time to eat an ice cream on the way back to the car.
